One of the highlights of a month-long celebration of the 9th year anniversary of IECEP UAE is the “SportsFest and Family Fun Day for a Cause” that was held last 14th of July 2017 at Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI). This activity promotes quality time for each family by participating in fun and healthy activities together. The proceeds raised from the event will be donated to our distressed Kababayan in POLO OWWA during our Charity Outreach Program scheduled on 22nd July 2017. A week prior to the event itself, on July 7, 2017, a practice game was held in the same venue.

During the main event, registration started as early as 7:00 AM. Then the formal program was officially opened with an Invocation by Engr. Jan Michael De Villeres, VP – Education, followed by National Anthems of the Philippines and the UAE. Engr. Annaliza Binondo, President & Chairman of the Board, welcomed the gathering. Public Relations Officer, Engr. Roderick Lodevico, administered the Oath of Sportsmanship to the participants while Engr. Glenn Arthur Narag, Director – Special Programs presented the participating teams and the game mechanics. To warm up the players and got them ready to play, Engr. Leo Mendoza, Secretary General, led their Zumba morning exercise. Engr. Louie Mel Maliksi and Engr. Gretchen Gopela are the masters of this ceremony.

The long awaited athletics events started. Major games include basketball and volleyball, while we have badminton and darts for the minor games. Each team was tested for their perseverance and unity. Every win entitles the team to have another game and one step closer to the championships. The loss on the other hand shows the team’s sportsmanship.

For basketball, there were a total of four teams; two teams from Abu Dhabi/Al Ain and another two from Dubai/Northern Emirates. Dubai Team 2 bagged the championship title, while Abu Dhabi Team 1 and Dubai Team 1 were the 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up, respectively.

In the volleyball event, two teams participated – Abu Dhabi/Al Ain vs. Dubai/Northern Emirates. Abu Dhabi/Al Ain Team brought home the bacon while Dubai/Northern Emirates settled for the runner–up place.

For darts (singles), Engr. Ronald Esguerra was the victor whereas Engr. Van Arcega was on second place. The rest of the family members played badminton for fun and no official results were recorded.

Engr. Ronald Esguerra, Immediate Past President, and Engr. Annaliza Binondo, President & Chairman of the Board, announced and presented the medals and trophies to the winners. VP for Internal Affairs, Engr. Gretchen Gopela left a remarkable message as she closed the ceremony.

At the end, it was a great family day indeed. Afar from busy work schedules, this activity highlighted the values of unity, teamwork, and communication while showcasing each member’s willingness to win. Congratulations to all the winners and a huge thanks to all the committees headed by the overall moderators, Engr. Glenn Arthur Narag and Engr. Evangel Arcega. This proved that members of IECEP UAE excel not only in technical jobs professionally, but are equally skillful in sports activities as well. See you again in our next SportsFest 2018!
