IECEP-UAE Chapter, on its commitment to support social awareness and responsibility in the Filipino community, took active participation on the meeting and dialogue with Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr. The said occasion was held last March 3, 2017 in the CME Hall, Wellness Tower 1, Universal Hospital, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

On his opening statement, DFA Secretary Yasay praised the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in strengthening the Philippines’ economy. Since the Southeast Asian financial crisis in 1990s, the remittance from OFWs helped the nation overcome all similar crises. He said that the government has set up a 100-million-peso legal assistance fund for OFWs, which could be utilized by everyone in need. During the dialogue, Community leaders raised various concerns and queries within the community, which is his part of his mission – to hear the voice of the OFW and opted not to speak much and in detail as ordered by our President, HE Rodrigo Duterte, who is also expected to visit in the coming months.

Engr. Dionimar R. Mejia , VP for External Affairs, represented the organization on the said gathering, hosted by the Philippine Embassy and its officials and in attendance were the Bayanihan Executive Council Leaders and Filipino community leaders in Abu Dhabi. Present also in the meeting was our Philippine Ambassador to UAE, HE Constancio Vingno Jr, with his wife Madam Yoko Vingno,  Along with the officials of the Embassy and POLO, with Honorable Vice Consul Rowena Daquipil as the moderator.
