IECEP UAE Chapter Officers and Members with Honorable Consul General Paul Reymund Cortes

The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) UAE Chapter under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in United Arab Emirates, had successfully hosted its 1st Quarter Technical Seminar and Induction of 2017 Chapter Officers, Board of Directors and Area Coordinators last March 24, 2017 at Safina Ballroom, Grand Excelsior Hotel, Al Barsha Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The said event once again ascertained the untiring support of its general membership with its 110 participants, composed of PECE, ECE, ECT, Associates members and non-members across the Emirates.

As IECEP UAE endeavor to achieve the organization’s mission and vision that is “To be a world-class organization of humane, competent, virtuous and globally-competitive electronics professionals” and  “To be the showcase of professional and technical development and the paradigm of excellence in applying the principles of electronics technology to the advancement of humanity”, two technical seminars were organized to provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programs for all its registered and licensed members. The first topic entitled “An Overview of Optical Transport Network and its Evolution to 100G and Beyond” was tackled by technical resource speaker, Engr. Lloyd Allen Ondona, PECE, 2014-2015 President and Adviser who has more than 15 years of solid experience in the telecommunications field with 10 years as NOC Engineer of Etisalat. The second topic entitled “Introduction to Rail Systems Engineering for ECE’s” was presented by technical resource speaker, Engr. June Lloyd Emerson Gopela, ECE, current Director for Technical Development, who is currently working as a Field Site Engineer of Bombardier Transportation Holdings USA, Dubai Branch and is in charge of Engineering related to Wayside, Systems, Power, Signaling, and HSE of Dubai Airport Terminal 1 – Concourse D APM System

These seminars broaden and advance the technical knowledge of all the participants to the latest trends in Telecommunications and furnished them an overview to the common terminologies and systems used in Rail engineering, respectively.

The second part of the event is the Presentation of 2017 Chapter Offices and Board of Directors, followed by the turn-over ceremony from the Immediate Past President, Engr. Ronald Esguerra, PECE and Acceptance Speech by the newly inducted President/Chairman, Engr. Analiza Binondo, ECE. In her acceptance speech, Engr. Binondo expressed her gratitude to lead an organization dominated by man and highlighted that to be a leader is being a servant as well. As previous years have lots of accomplishments, she added that the position entrusted to her is a ‘big shoe to fill in’.

Awards were also given to the most outstanding IECEP members and to the past officers as recognition and appreciation on their contribution to the organization on fulfilling its vision and mission.

Consulate General of the Philippines in Dubai, Consul General Paul Reymund Cortes was also present at the event as the key note guest speaker. He extended his compliments and good wishes to the newly inducted officers, especially to the new Chairman, Engr. Binondo. He stretched out the greatest role of women in the present society which is timely to the celebration of International Women’s Day. In addition, he urged all Electronics Engineers to avail of ASEAN opportunities, citing Filipino professional has been one of the most preferred professionals in the UAE, thus we need to be abreast of the latest trend and technology to remain competitive between its counterparts not only in ASEAN but in the global community as well. The Consul General also encouraged the IECEP to continue their commitment to be involved in community projects, commending their previous projects that assist Filipinos in distress.

Immediate Past President and Chairman of the Board, Engr. Ronald Esguerra, PECE presented the Vote of Thanks and Accomplishment Report for the year 2016. Part of these accomplishments are 68% increase in Membership, the newly passers for  ECE/ECT through SPLBE program, the 100% passing for PECE, the IECEP 2016 GCCC International Convention which was held at Bahrain and attended by 23 IECEP UAE members that made them to be the most number of delegates. The successful AGM Live stream support, their Social Development and Community Involvement like in Bayanihan, PPO, Charity Outreach Program and many more accomplishments to mention.

Last part of the event was the Distribution of Certificates for all the attendees. It was then followed by Announcements of the upcoming events for this year which was presented by the current Secretary General, Engr. Leonardo Mendoza, PECE. He also highlighted the important event that will be hosted here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates which is the IECEP 4th GCC Summit, to be participated of all chapters in the GCC Region, namely KSA-CRC, KSA-ERC, KSA-WRC, Bahrain, Qatar and the newly organized IECEP Kuwait Chapter.

Procedures for PRC Renewal and the required CPD points to obtain Certificate of Good Standing were also discussed. The new IECEP national portal/website was also introduced to the members and encouraged them to create account and update their profile in the system. This will enable the members to track the seminars they have attended and the total CPD points accumulated. COGS can be downloaded also in the website as soon as member gathers 45 CPD points.

This technical seminar rewarded the members consisting of electronics engineers, technicians and professionals working in the field of telecommunications, broadcasting, semiconductors, electronics, information and communication technology, oil and gas, railway system, power and more, not only certificate of attendance but also 8 CPD points as part of their participation.
