IECEP UAE Chapter’s 8th Annual General Membership Meeting

The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) UAE Chapter under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in United Arab Emirates, had successfully hosted its 8th Year Annual General Membership Meeting and 4th Quarter Technical Seminar last December 09, 2016 at Royal Rose Hotel, Electra Street, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The said event once again ascertained the untiring support of its general membership with its record breaking number of 140 participants, composed of PECE, ECE, ECT, Associates members and non-members across the Emirates.

 

This year’s AGM meeting was eminent and extraordinary as it was attended by officials from the IECEP National, led by President Engr Jose Carlos Reyes, PECE, ASEAN, with the Vice President for Internal Affairs Engr Raymond Medina, PECE, ACPE-APEC-ASEAN Engineer. The members of the chapter were given the opportunity to raise their concerns and issues during the Open Forum Discussion and at the same time announcements and updates from the IECEP National has been heard first-hand from President Engr Reyes as well as queries and clarifications on membership has been answered and noted by Engr Medina.

As IECEP UAE commits to provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programs for all its registered and licensed members, two (2) Technical Seminars duly accredited with a total of 8 CPD points were given as part of the full day activity. The first topic was entitled “Introduction to Satellite News Gathering and Digital News Gathering” by in-house Resource Speaker and the current VP – Internal Affairs of IECEP UAE Chapter, Engr Louie Mel Maliksi, PECE – a CNN Broadcast Engineer who has a solid experience and profound knowledge on the subject matter. He had comprehensively explained the overview of the technologies used in Live TV Coverage with the use of SNG and DNG in particular, and at the same time covered the history, orbits, frequencies, networks, equipment, bandwidth, applications, regulations, and industry structure of the Satellite Communications, as well as involving the use of very advanced technology. Engr Maliksi was effective in conducting the session interactively, engaging the members on the discussion together with his panelists, namely Engr Jefrey Barra (from SkyNews) and Engr Araneta Ignacio (from Ericsson Broadcast&Media), both world class Broadcast Engineers.

The second technical seminar was delivered by Guest Resource Speaker, Engr. Raymond Medina, the Founder and President of R.C. Medina Consultancy Corporation on his topic entitled “PECE Forum and Ethics in Practice”. He had extensively discussed the current trend and latest developments in the practice of Electronics engineering and the ethics of the PECE, ECE, and ECT practitioners in the industry. The session had enlightened the minds of the members on possible return and reintegration back to the Philippines, appreciating the potential career in the construction industry and understanding the issues that are deemed important on the execution of the PECE work. Engr Medina had established the value and the need to professionally upgrade; encouraging everyone to continuously learn and develop to keep their skills and knowledge abreast and be globally competitive in their profession.

Highlighted on the programme was the Oath Taking Ceremony, which was officially administered by Honorable Vice Consul Rowena Daquipil of the Philippine Embassy, Abu Dhabi. The twenty (20) successful board passers of the Special Professional Licensure Board Exam (SPLBE) for this year, wherein three (3) Electronics Engineers (ECE) and fourteen (14) Electronics Technician (ECT) had sworn their oath as new professionals. Likewise, nine (9) newly upgraded to Professionals Electronics Engineers (PECE) took their oath, ready to take the bold step to register as ASEAN professionals which plays a significant role in achieving the overall objectives of the ASEAN integration. Further, the new ECEs, ECTs and members of IECEP UAE Chapter had took also their Oath of Membership officiated by IECEP National President, Engr Jose Carlos Reyes, PECE, ASEAN.

 

What makes the atmosphere extra special is the presence of The Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to UAE, His Excellency Constancio Vingno, Jr., with his wife Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno. Ambassador Vingno gracefully delivered his keynote message to all attendees and congratulated everyone for continuously striving to be a world class skilled professionals, giving inspiration and outmost support to the Filipino community and Bayanihan Council.

The annual general membership assembly won’t be complete without the election for the next year’s Officers and Board of Directors. Engr Lloyd Allen Ondona, PECE, Immediate Past President and Chairman of the Election Committee, presided the nomination process and soon was able to distinguish the 20 nominees, consisting of 10 representatives from Abu Dhabi/Al Ain and 10 from Dubai and Northern Emirates. Those nominated will then convene to identify the fourteen (14) members of the new set of officers and the coordinator of every Emirate which will take the leadership and at the same time will serve the chapter and its members for the year 2017.

Indeed, this momentous occasion that is said to be a major gathering of all Filipino electronics engineers, technicians and practitioners working from a diverse sector such as telecommunications, broadcasting, electronics and semiconductors, computer and information technology, oil and gas, power, military and more has proven once and for all, that we are One Family, One Profession, One Organization.
